Mavericks: mount network drive at startup

1. Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups
2. Push "Login Items" tabbed button
3. Drag the network drive from desktop into the "Login Items" list (e.g. Public here)

Finally, drag the network drive from desktop into the Finder left pane to make it available from Finder.
